Cute baby names with religious meanings behind them?

Me and my husband are having a baby (don’t know what sex it is yet) and we want it to have a religious meaning behind it like our names. My name (Giovanna) means God is Gracious and his name (Dominic) means Belonging to God. And we just want for our child to have a name like that. For example the name Christian, which means Follower of God.

But, it can’t be a name straight from the bible, I don’t really like them that much (they’re not that cute). A name that’s kinda unique (like people have it as a name, but not many), but still really nice. Boy and Girl’s names.

THANKS =)

What a cool way to connect your names! I like that a lot.

Girl names:
Adaya -God’s jewel
Astrid -God’s strength
Diella -Flower of God
Jayne -God is gracious
Janice -God is gracious
Katriel -God is my crown
Liana -God has answered me.
Liesel -God is my oath
Morriah -God is my teacher

Boy names:
Elias/Ellis -The Lord is my God
Hansel -God is gracious
Ian -God is gracious
Joel -God will be willing
Micah -who is like God?

My son’s name is Evan and it is a form of John that also means *just like yours!* God is gracious! Evan is actually the only name that my husband and I agreed on, and we absolutely love it! (For the record, his middle name is Michael…which is my husband’s middle name, which means "Who is like God". Good luck on your search :)

What about something like Keziah, Vashti or Dara? All are names used in the Bible, but not the typical Mary, Eve, Naomi, Sarah, etc., so perhaps they’ll still appeal? There’s also Talitha ("little girl" in Aramaic), Evangeline (good news), Serafina (Italian version of Seraphina, named for the seraphim order of angels) and Verity (truth), which seem along the same lines as you’d wanted.

Boys are a bit harder, since actual Biblical options like Asher (happy or blessed), Levi, Ezra and Jude are coming to mind. ;) You could, however, consider using a translation of one of the more common Bible names, such as your own name, Giovanna (feminine Italian form of John). Ian, Evan, Eoin (said Owen) or Sean are all Celtic versions of the same name, so they’d all have the same meaning as yours and, in essence, be named for you. ;) Here’s an entire list of other forms of John: http://www.behindthename.com/php/translate.php?terms=john&menuterm=&menuterm2=&gender=both

Likewise, you might consider this approach for the girl names. For instance, just because Mary or Elizabeth might not appeal doesn’t mean you wouldn’t like Moira, Maura, Mairenn (rhymes with Lauren), Isobel, Sabella or Elspeth, know what I mean? Those are just examples, but hopefully it makes sense. ;)

Hope that helps, and good luck!
